PROJECT: WORLD'S LARGEST LESSON

The Brief

Education has a critical role to play in achieving a fairer, greener and healthier world, and yet achieving this requires transformation of the global education system and its mobilization as a vehicle for change. One challenge within this is the engagement of children and young people with learning that builds skills and confidence (agency).

The current challenge is being able to translate complex global issues and sustainability competencies into relatable, actionable learning for children and young people of all ages. The World’s Largest Lesson (WLL) sets out to bridge this gap through a free multi-media resource library for educators globally that can help develop SDG skills.

The Approach

INSPIRATION

Our strategy focuses on accessibility and community-led scaling. We create and distribute high-quality, creative resources translated in over 7 languages. Central to this mission is our massive, grassroots educator network: 76,000 teachers across 170+ countries who act as local champions for the Global Goals.

To maintain momentum throughout the academic year, we develop lesson toolkits for key moments in the global calendar. For Global Goals Week and Earth Day, we provide educators with the ready-to-use, customisable resources that help connect classrooms to the Global Goals and develop SDG skills within their students. By providing these ready-to-use materials, we lower the barrier to entry for teachers and ensure that the Global Goals are not just a one-off assembly topic, but a year-round educational priority.

The World's Largest Lesson provides a creative digital framework my high school students need to actually apply the Global Goals. Because the resources are engaging and highly visual, my students can use art and design to re-imagine their local communities. It transforms them from passive learners into active creators of the future.

The Results

TITLE AREA

By equipping 76,000 educators and leveraging purposeful partnerships, we have reached over 15 million children and young people and developed SDG skills globally. The scale of this engagement is particularly evident in our focused campaigns; the impact of our Global Goals Week toolkits since 2024 has reached over 8,700 classrooms and 183,000 students.

By providing these tools, we aren’t just educating, we are empowering the next generation of leaders. We are shifting the growing narrative of creating change from anxiety to agency, proving that when educators are supported with the right resources, they can inspire their students. The result is a global classroom where students are no longer passive observers of global challenges, but active changemakers in a more sustainable and equitable world.
