The challenge

Keeping young people connected during a global crisis

As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted education around the world, millions of children and young people found themselves learning from home, disconnected from their classrooms and facing an uncertain future.

The challenge was to create an engaging learning experience that would bring young people together, address their concerns and give them a voice in conversations about the world they wanted to see after the pandemic.

The idea

A global classroom without borders

Project Everyone’s World’s Largest Lesson partnered with UNICEF to create World’s Largest Lesson Live, a 35-minute educational YouTube show designed for teenagers around the world.

Bringing together international leaders, health experts, celebrities and young people, the show created a platform for honest conversations about education, health and the future, encouraging a generation to imagine how the world could emerge stronger from the pandemic.

what happened

Young voices joined the global conversation

Launched on 16 June 2020, World’s Largest Lesson Live brought together influential voices including Millie Bobby Brown, Sofia Carson, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and leading experts from UNICEF and the World Health Organization.

Hosted by journalist Savannah Sellers, the show explored the impact of the pandemic on education, health and young people’s futures, creating space for young people to share their experiences and ambitions.

The broadcast encouraged audiences to see the pandemic as an opportunity to rethink the future, closing with an uplifting performance by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
